Low Back Pain Relief in Santa Rosa
Warning: Other clinics claim to provide Non-Surgical Disc Decompression, but they are using cheap, inferior equipment that may not provide the same results. Don't be fooled by other websites that claim to have the same results and expertise as 5th Street Spine (www.SantaRosaDRX.com)

Have you been told you have a disc problem?
Lumbar disc problems can cause debilitating low back, leg, and foot pain, tingling and numbness. The result of this, of course, is a dramatic effect on quality of life; daily activities are impaired. Work becomes impossible.
There use to be a gap between conservative chiropractic care for more minor disc bulges and herniations and those more severe herniations that require surgery. Because there was a gap in options, many people were either subjected to irreversible surgery with limited results, or used chiropractic care or physical therapy with mixed results. In some cases this conservative care can be frustratingly slow to progress to better function.
Disc Decompression Therapy
Now, however, we have bridged the gap. Our Santa Rosa office, 5th Street Spine, offers a comprehensive, results-based care plan for those suffering with the pain of herniated lumbar discs. This comprehensive plan starts with initial passive care: lumbar disc decompression using the DRX9000, and the plan moves into an active care plan using our own unique spinal rehabilitative protocols and the SpineForce technologies.
The DRX9000 is a state-of-the-art decompression machine that uses computer microprocessors to monitor and control traction to the lumbar spine at specific angles for the targeted segment. Patients are placed on the machine, upright, wearing a pelvic and thoracic harness. The decompression table is slowly lowered to lay the patient on his back. The treatment table is then adjusted for the patient's height and shoulder position, and a lumbar support is comfortably adjusted for the low back. The DRX9000 starts applying a pulling force to the pelvic harness in an increasing "reversed logarithmic force" to minimize the chance of muscle spasm. This decompression continues with an alternating pull at the maximal set force, then a relaxation at half-force.
When decompression therapy is finished, the patient relaxes on a separate table with interferential muscle stimulation and ice-pack cryotherapy. This helps to "consolidate" the area to allow the patient to continue his/her day without any residual instability.
Rehabilitation for Low Back Pain
When patients are moved to the active care protocol, alternating with the decompression on different days, they use the SpineForce technology along with low-tech rehabilitation such as a wobble-board, Swiss Ball, and other active physiotherapy methods. This is done to strengthen and coordinate the spinal muscles.
Spine force technology provides a moving platform on which the patient stands while directing other forces into sensors at the front of the machine. When the patient stands on the moving platform, novel forces and feed back is introduced to the mechanoreceptors of the muscles, joints, and ligaments of the feet/ankles, legs, hips, and spine. This feedback into the receptors sends signals into the spinal cord, to the cerebellum and brain for a reflex response back to the muscles of postural control.
Much of this postural control is relayed along unconscious neural pathways. Conscious effort is applied through force-feedback sensors at the handles of the machine, providing a target to which the patient tries to match and keep stable. With the platform moving, this provides a very dynamic challenge both consciously and unconsciously through the postural system.
These various forces help to provide stabilization of the low back by exercising the postural (core) muscles. This stabilization is critical to providing lasting relief and to prevent future injury to the spine.
